STYLE NO. 877 : Classic Moc

The 877 is the most iconic Red Wing boot, worn by millions of American workers since 1953. It’s eight inches of premium Red Wing Oro Legacy leather combined with Goodyear welt construction, a Traction Tred outsole and triple stitched quality.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

This boot is patterned after style no. 877, a style that elevated the Red Wing brand to worldwide renown. First introduced in the early 1950’s, it was made with russet colored leather, tanned by using the sap of sequoia bark. The process yielded a rich color that was very close to the coat of an Irish Setter hunting dog. These boots provided excellent arch support, and had a light, cushion crepe sole. The 877 and the 875, a 6” version, became overnight sensations among hunters and workers alike. Together the 875 and 877 became Red Wing’s most widely recognized boots and icons for the brand.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.
